Recently the Bible Project released an episode on Jesus' petition usually translated "lead us not into temptation" from the Lord's Prayer. A new thought for me from this was the possibility that Jesus knows this petition is not always answered. Jesus himself was tempted in the wilderness and in Gethsemane, where he prayed that the cup of testing would pass from him, and was denied.

Since, I've been wrestling with this idea, that right there in Jesus' daily prayer is a request He knows will not always be answered. Is this unsettling, because I have to face I might not get what I hope for, or freeing, because I don't have to limit my prayers to only those things I'm already sure are part of God's plan?
