This passage, when I first read it, was like a punch in the face: "In that case Christ is no longer an object of religion, but something quite different, really the Lord of the world. But what does that mean?" What indeed? For my thinking it was the last -push- to get me beyond the false sacred/secular dichotomy I had grown up living within.

So one question I have is, what is meant by “religion”? Is it simply the outer trappings of faith, such as church attendance, hymns, public prayer, ceremony, and sacraments? Or something else?

If the former, I’ve generally held similar views to Landon Saunders that “religion” is stifling, suffocating, and a killer of faith. But the more I read Dr. Beck, the more I back up from some of that. Does not a “religionless” faith rob it of “enchantment”? Inquiring minds want to know! 😊
