But doesn't the whole idea of Christ being present in his body suggest that the kingdom can only manifest in a group. Isn't it exactly in the inner-group interactions that the kingdom becomes visible and tangible. Even admitting that a local church is a mixed bunch and that church membership doesn't necessarily mean kingdom participation... The question to me rather seems at what scale does the unity and commitment to the King break down? Certainly at the level of Christendom or the christian nation... But I think you need the local Body to live out and manifest the kingdom, warts and all.

I like this so much. I don't know why but I've never applied this in the way you have here. It makes great sense. And again, like you wrote yesterday, it is about expectations. I think about that a lot in terms of the world (In this world you will have trouble) but not in the church. But this parable certainly makes it clear that it is difficult to sort out and maybe the point is, we don't need to be worried about the sorting. What a relief!
