Here's one thought, for what it's worth: to say that God is Light is to say that God is that by which all else is seen and understood.

One might also add that, by extension, God is that by which all reason for fear is expelled (since fear has its roots in darkness/hiddenness/the unknown).

One adjective not mentioned for “light” to me is “purity” as well as purifying. When our dog’s bed gets a little stinky, we know we can put it outside in the sun and after a day of sunshine, it smells a lot better! So to me, the Light of God is purifying.
