Love it!

You write "And people will nostalgically long for the lost culture of Christendom, with its taken-for-granted givenness and homogeneity." I hope people who long for that also keep in mind that during such periods of Christian history people were being burned at the stake and otherwise killed if they expressed their doubts openly. Would we really want to return to that?

A slightly different angle.

Intention is a foundation of enchantment (true enchantment).

You see this vividly in crafted things, like art. The intention of the crafted thing is perceived. You see that it was made for you, and you trust it.
