Using the word "magic" still makes me uneasy, Richard. Simply quoting from St John of Damascus doesn't mean one is thinking the way he did.

And, what I see in the others you have quoted in this series that bothers me is what seems to be the seeking of obtaining all the benefits of illumination and transfiguration without maintaining humility before God, and awareness of how easy it is to turn from him and toward death (sin). God is not **required** to do these things for us; he chooses to do so out of his love for humanity. It's the manipulative aspect of theurgy - even though it's not as intense as in casting spells (or even "accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior" in order to **make** God forgive you) - that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It seems to be another way of wanting the gifts rather than the Giver.

So helpful. Thank you.

Dr Beck, if you haven’t done so already, i wish you would listen to a podcast called The Telepathy Tapes. It’s created by Ky Dickens. TTT podcasts is about the reality of some of God’s creatures, mostly nonverbal autistic people communicating telepathically with their parents and teachers. It’s all bathed in Love and quite beautiful.

But I really would appreciate it if you would ‘theologically’ sort this thing out for me. Especially Talk Tracks Ep 11. Although very “enchanting”, it seems to me, to be a little… dark. It’s basically an interview with some X-NASA brainiac who discusses reincarnation like it’s just a fact of our existence. For a slightly clunky recovering 1990’s-2015ish evangelical Christian, whose theology now lines up with yours (thanks again), this a bit disturbing. To be fair to Ty Dickens, she does a great job with her project, mission, calling… whatever. Episodes 1-10 are full of light. And 11 might be too. But I don’t know. I would be grateful for your thoughts on the phenomenon of telepathy, and also reincarnation as it’s discussed in TTT.
