Our minds try to "hold evening primrose of sky in steady calipers."

I have come to believe that life viewed through the lens of secular materialism is like seeing butterflies pinned to boards in a natural history exhibit rather than strolling through a garden inhabited by live butterflies.

Good, so good, Richard. I recently heard Malcolm Guite say, citing Lewis and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, say of this scientist, immanent frame that we look at the starts and say, 'It's a giant ball of flaming gas.' "Yes, that's what it's made of, but that is not *what it is.*" We've lost the is-ness, the being-ness, in our reductionistic measurement and analysis. Levertov jostles the imagination of our secular soil with this beautiful poetry.
