Berrigan was a prophet of God. The two people who sustained me during my opposition to the Vietnam War were Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Daniel Berrigan. I was a member and minister of the Church of Christ then. Both of their faith traditions were different than mine. They spoke to my soul in the name of God. They were my two witnesses. I read “Night Flight To Hanoi”, and “Quotations from Chairman Jesus”. I remember Berrigan and others burning draft files at Catonsville,MD. In 1980, I traveled on a pilgrimage and met Berrigan at Kirkridge in Pennsylvania. I was burned out and worn out after coming out of a failed relationship and 4 hard years as a Navy medic. I met Berrigan and immediately I sensed his prophetic holiness. He was a very gentle and soft spoken man. I was encouraged and I received his prayers and blessings. I left there inspired. A couple of month’s later I was at Earlham School of Religion. I met and married my wife Faith. Berrigan was a blessing to my life.
