"Our modern solution is to encourage all women, from every class, to meet the male demand for casual sex." Very true.

The corollary is that modern society needs abortion on demand to minimise the cost of male desire for sex on demand. Pushing backing on the former, without confronting the latter problem is unfair and hypocritical, because it dumps all the consequences of the male problem onto vulnerable women, while males who are the cause of both problems get off free.

I think often the mistake is to confuse liberation of the "self" or at least the construct of the self, with liberation of a group. This probably applies to lots of things. Pre-scandalized Bill Cosby spent a lot of time chastising young black men, which of course mostly appealed to white folks hearing what they wanted to hear. "Pull your pants up and stop blaming us for stuff. Just like that one famous guy with a similar skin tone says."

So there's obvious implied privilege when one is in a position to make that statement.

And to me is also what happens with sex, whether that be prostitution or performance art. One can flip the whole thing on its head, but only in a very confined and constructed environment. Look! No more stigma! But "we've" done nothing help anyone living in the lowest levels of the global economy, or under the thumb of terrible addiction, or the horror of human trafficking.
