There is not question in my mind that human beings have an innate desire to exist in a transformed state other than that in which they find themselves. All of mankind has been, and continues to be, in a desperate quest to regain Eden, to be found Naked and Unashamed. Every disfunction of Man can somehow be traced back to this desire and his pursuit of it, which given another name, is intimacy. So from that perspective, I am in the de Lubac camp.

However, where I likely differ, is that I do not believe there is an “ultimate fulfillment” outside of Eden. Rather, there are only greater degrees of fulfillment, which spiritual transformation into the likeness of Jesus provides. But this side of heaven, we will always have an ache, an emptiness, and find even the beauty of life to be, CS Lewis opined in Weight of Glory, a “scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.” I believe Paul wrote some things about this as well, yes?

I believe that the use of the term supernatural is weird (even if necessary to the debate) because sugests the possibility of being whitout God, which is foreign to some interpretations.
