This is powerful thank you for sharing. I am a leader in my local church navigating the issue of gender, as many are these days, and would love to read more about your comment “if you get Jesus right you get gender right”, and the influence of Christology on conversations concerning gender roles amongst the people of God. Can you point me to some resources that dive into this subject a bit more, perhaps a previous blog series or some relevant literature?

One thing I do wonder about, and would be interested in your thoughts on this, is John Eldridge’s thought that as Christians, we receive a “new heart” (Ez. 36:26). This idea is fairly important to John’s overall theology on Desire and how God speaks to us through our desires, etc, which I find very reasonable. Nearly all of our desires can be traced back to our need to get back to Eden and the intimacy we lost there. I love John Eldridge but have struggled with his view that Jer. 17 doesn’t apply to “born again” Christians. At least, that’s how I understand Mr. Eldridge.

Oh my goodness, this is so good.

Dr. Beck, your postulate that if you “get Jesus right you’ll get the scriptures right” is very close to Brother Saunders’ postulate that he proclaimed at Lectureship in 2008: “If you get the people right, you’ll get the scriptures right!” Both of those statements have to be correct, yes?
