I think of Christianity as a reverse Trojan Horse. It is something very good and satisfying that comes wrapped in something we don't want. Colonialism, slavery, cruel boarding schools are the horse. Yet inside the horse is self-determination, freedom, and the love of Christ. Christianity ends up dismantling the vehicle that brought it.
This is exactly correct and the reason is that politics is all about power, coercion, and force, whereas Jesus is about love, grace, and freedom. And love is the most powerful force in the universe, unmatched in its ability to change people from within.
Have you read Dr. Beck's "The Slavery of Death"? Sounds like it comes out of left field, but (spoiler alert) it is really about how to love. I highly recommend it.
I can appreciate & understand the notion that politics is about power. Another perspective is that politics is a shorter word for public policy, how we relate to & navigate our social structure. We have this small scale in our homes where mom & dad bring different yet necessary perspectives into household management. Both are equally valuable & when children come around their input becomes apart of the discourse as well making them necessary & partly right or wrong as well.
It’s all designed to make us stronger, everyone, by the law of opposing forces, think lifting weights as a form of building muscles. The same principle applies in every aspect of life. What we must be careful of is hating the weights. Liberals, progressives, conservatives, in-betweens all offer building qualities to each other & are therefore necessary.
God is king & He gave us the concept of politics, public policy, so that we could work out & work with our differences with Him being the aim. We cancel & begin to hate opposition when we move Him out of the center of it all.

Wonderful as always, thank you for this. As I read this meditation I thought how everything follows from the simple fact Jesus is Lord.
