One of the weirdest thing of the reception of Lord of the Rings is how much people focus on the battles, when in the books they may have the same proeminence as the preparation of a meal.

I loved this Richard. I’ve spent the past two months doing a deep reading of Fellowship and gotten so much out of the text. 61 essays is a testament to how much deeper I can go.

I love the main idea that Tolkien was imitated but only on a surface level. In fact, I’ve this same pattern prevail with almost all great art. Imitation misses the essence of the work.
