anecdotally, when I served in a small West Texas town outside of Abilene, I noticed that people there tended to die at home. The culture around dying was different in that small town compared to cities. At the time of immanent death, the house would be full of friends and family. The dying person was in the bedroom accompanied by a rotation of friends and family but the living room, kitchen, dining room were full of people who would be visiting with each other. People provided food and stayed all day long.
