Interesting ideas and good to think about. Maybe it went wrong with any idea of moral authority in the first place and Jesus followers, Christians took a wrong turn there. Power is not the same as authority. Maybe moral authority is not a loving way to use power well after all and it is a loss not to aspire to regain.

I agree that the church has no voice presently. And I agree that our voice is expressed in the Deed which expresses itself. But don’t we want to express our motivation spurring our deeds - our response to the love of Christ? Don’t we love him (and others] because he first loved us? If so, don’t we want to obey him? He has never told me to shut up. In fact, he told me to fish for, shepherd and love my neighbors, So I do “Deeds” and I speak words of consolation, encouragement, curiosity and presence - not always well, but mostly well intended. I’m not the church and I won’t be gagged by it’s failures. I speak on behalf of Christ, not his bride.
