I wonder, though, your thoughts on our perception of / relationship to God being so significantly shaped and mediated by previous experiences and relationships. E.g., my sense of God is shaped by my upbringing in an authoritarian home or church culture. Or, moral injury leads to distorted views of God. Thoughts?
Oh, I do think a lot of "God" issues are really family or church issues. So, yes, it takes some work to disentangle the two. I wouldn't blame anyone for getting lost in the "precarious exchanges" of creatures, especially if they have been inured. Finding God in that matrix of hurt can be so, so difficult. But it is possible, and it is our rest.
