I love the phrase “warrant theology” – using Jesus to justify following our desires. I have thought of it as “sanitizing theology”, making our desires, seem righteous to ourselves and others. This type of psychological manipulation enables us to get what we want, appear to have God on our side and be viewed as a celebrity Christian with whom God converses, when we are merely using his name for this triple benefit.
That's a great way to put it: using to Jesus twist our desires into self righteousness. Some things seem obvious, but with others it can be more difficult to determine where the boundary is.
