Unenchanted, Enchanted, Disenchanted, Re-enchanted.

Concerning the latter two:

"I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of the Lord's wrath....

I became the laughingstock of all my people; they mock me in song all day long...

So I say, 'my splendor is gone and all that I had hoped from the Lord.' I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me.

Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness...

Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone...

You came near when I called you, and you said, 'do not fear.' You, Lord, took up my cause; you redeemed my life."

Lamentations 3:1, 14, 18-23, 32-33, 57-58

I grew up reading Tolkien and Lewis, and feel so much richer for it. I would love to find other writers who evoke this same feeling in me, that of unspeakable odds against the main characters, and then hope that arises. Madeleine L’Engle had the same mindset as well.

I am working on preaching Gideon’s fear with his 300 men going to battle. The enemies dream was the prophecy of a eucatastrophy coming. Hearing about it provoked worship in Gideon. Thanks for the Gospel turn in this story. I could kiss you!

As I watch a nation turn its back on the Lord in order to consult the stars and tarot cards, I wait with a blessed hope for a sudden eucatastrophic grace. Blessed be the name!!
