Becoming individuals that can meet each moment appropriately takes self-reflection and practice. With our society being one causing great harm to others, there is a discussion to be had about practices that involve changing the structural sins as we encounter them daily. How we respond in the political arena and in our communities to reflect the values and practice of Jesus is a heated topic. It is tempting to focus on being kind of individuals, and yet not look at our actions and beliefs in a larger context, as we do know that these larger issues impact the lives of individuals. As Henri Nowen says in his book Life of The Beloved, “As the Beloved ones, our greatest fulfillment lies in becoming bread for the world” One question is, what is the world? Is it person-to-person, or does it also involve a larger context? I would argue is absolutely does.
