We have learned to fly the air like birds and swim the sea like fish, but we have not learned the simple art of living together as brothers....This problem of spiritual and moral lag, which constitutes modern man's chief dilemma, expresses itself in three larger problems which grow out of man's ethical infantilism. Each of these problems, while appearing to be separate and isolated, is inextricably bound to the other. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1964 Noble Prize Acceptance Speech.
This are words...long forgotten, which spoke the truth about our condition long before social media exposed us. Our technology only reflects back our intents and our true selves, what really lives in the deep parts of our hearts that normally we may not let show. While I don't believe in total depravity as the default of man, I will be the first to say that depravity is pervasive and without the grace of God, it would quickly become total.
So let us put our trust in the Lord, for He has overcome our selfish, self - centered and wrong desires that lead to us into decay, destruction and death. May the Lord God grant us courage and wisdom as we live in these tumultuous times and may our hearts be assured that no matter the political situation, in times of civil strife or peace, we belong to the Lord.
amen.
