I think it helps, me anyway, to recognize that Sin, capital S, is much more pervasive and debilitating than just “my sin.” I grew up with the teaching to think about my sin and all the ways I’ve failed, but then that turned into focusing on myself a lot and worrying about whether or not I was ever “removing sin from my life.” It has been life-changing for me to realize that I need to agree with God about my sin, and then ask Him to remove it, and trust that He is working in my life to do that. My work is to surrender, accept, receive, more than actively make 5-step plans for self-improvement.
