There is a real rock and a hard place here. It's easy to see the hypocrisy of those in another political tribe. But even saying, "I am not like other men" makes one the pharisee in the parable. The only correct response seems to be to beat our chest and not even look up . We're all the tax collector AND the pharisee. We sin in obvious and cunning ways.

I think that’s the real lesson… that we are all to be more aware of our own sin than anyone else’s… and let others fight as they wish, we will follow Jesus and pray.

Thought-provoking read, thank you. Many Western Christians are desperately trying to develop a Christianity that allows them to maintain political and social power while still believing themselves to be on the path to eternal glory. I share much of Dr. Beck's skepticism. The silver lining is that our conditions seem to be ripe for revival sometime in the next few decades. God is good. He will take care of us and work it out.
