I don't know if the lament of Psalm 88 is the first step back into the light, but the coincidence of my recent thinking that maybe God has sent me some difficulties, together with reading how Psalm 88 identifies, and complains that God is the/(its) antagonist - is startling.
It also reminds me of what Job said in response to his three friends, Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar in:
Job 19: 6 Know then that God has wronged me,
And has surrounded me with His net. (NKJV).
It all may work out for good, but in the meantime, until it does, it's sometimes difficult to maintain a "good, positive attitude".
So true. The lament is truth to ourselves. The worst beating that a soul can go through is claiming that in grace there is no darkness, as some over the top Christians sometimes do; only to collapse later on under the daily lies they have told themselves. But to lament, to be totally frank with God, is to bring God out of the fluff into the dark cloud of the day where we both argue over the quickest way to the light...and the holiest concession I can give is a curt , "...alright, alright,.."

Good to remember.
