Author Gary Lachman explores the "Magik" theme of esoteric dark arts within the alt-right and the rise of Donald Trump (memes, trickster):

Dark Star Rising: Magick and Power in the Age of Trump

Lachman also explores the impact of Alexander Dugin's philosophical dark arts behind Putin's regime in his book:

The Return of Holy Russia: Apocalyptic History, Mystical Awakening, and the Struggle for the Soul of the World

In his book he calls out the turn of the century esoteric political philosopher, Julius Evola, who had an impact on Mussolini and then Natzi party leaders. He also calls out Steve Bannon as a follower of Julius Evola.

The movement behind the current US administration is creepily backed by the rise of the techno Dark Enlightenment (aka Dark Maga) preached by silicon valley guru philosopher Curtis Yarvin. Yarvin's ideas are pushed by Peter Theil, JD Vance, and aligned with Victor Orban and get this, Alexander Dugin. No conspiracy here, but more a loose collection of serious thinkers all believing they are rescuing the world. Or should we call it a new world coup d'etat now rapidly underway?

Mihaela Raileanu has an excellent essay/book on this:

The Yarvin Blueprint: How the New Right is Dismantling American Democracy

Tomberg, though an enthusiastic convert to the Catholic faith, could be classed as a proponent of Perennialist school. This honors all the great Traditions of the major world religions and asserts truths from them. It's been decades since I read it. It was astonishing how sometimes he would denigrate Martin Luther but later quote approvingly sages from Islam, Hinduism and the Taoists. Quite a ride.

It is a big book but I learnt so much from the half that I read. One of those books where you underline too much! I kept it a secret I was reading it at the time because the title would be grossly misunderstood. I remember often thinking however that this is more Christian than a lot of "sound" theology I was taught to subscribe to.

My dad was convinced this was the case with Hitler, that there were dark forces supporting him and keeping him alive.
