I see it as, when I read the first verses, I’m thinking about all the ways that we humans screw things up, I see the sin and pain and suffering and so forth. But then I turn my head and quit looking at those things, and I see God, and the whole mood shifts. Then I can talk about evil falling away without despairing that it’s still here, because my focus is on God. We become like what we pay attention to...

I agree. I recently wrote about that same principle relating it to congestive bias. If we are looking for God we will find Him. If we are looking for evil, not so surprisingly, we will find that as well.

I think another gap we must balance between is the gap between us as being the evildoers & us being in desperate need of saving. If we can’t see ourselves as perpetrators as well as the redeemed we aren’t seeing ourselves wholly. It’s how God sees us otherwise we wouldn’t need redemption.
