I’ve heard that any time we see or experience something that is further along, for the better, than we are the fact that we aren’t where we could be is a judge. The choice then is do we choose victim status & become bitter & resentful about it or do we accept the challenge, the invitation, the adventure to become more than we currently are. This is the psychological part that translates, & I would argue is rooted in, into our following Christ. He was more than a perfect human, He was God incarnate, the bridge between God & humanity. He didn’t model to us what being a good human was, He showed us Who God is. Just mentioning His name, Jesus, shines so much light into our dark hearts that we hide our faces as Moses did. God’s perfect mercy & grace combined with His willingness to suffer the greatest of suffering should crumble us to our knees. It is perfection. Anyone in the presence of Perfection, if they are even somewhat honest with themselves, will see their glaring imperfections & the choice is to move toward the light or create a case against it.
