I think of Christianity as a reverse Trojan Horse. It is something very good and satisfying that comes wrapped in something we don't want. Colonialism, slavery, cruel boarding schools are the horse. Yet inside the horse is self-determination, freedom, and the love of Christ. Christianity ends up dismantling the vehicle that brought it.

This is exactly correct and the reason is that politics is all about power, coercion, and force, whereas Jesus is about love, grace, and freedom. And love is the most powerful force in the universe, unmatched in its ability to change people from within.
